Learning at Pandy infants school

The national curriculum is in place throughout the school.  The children's learning is centred on the core subjects but spans the whole curriculum and is based on learning through topics (themes).

During the time that your child will spend here with us, it is hoped that your child will be able to listen with concentration and understanding, speak in a clear and fluent manner, be able to write clear and meaningful English, neatly and correctly.  Of course, all these stages should be appropriate to his/her own age, and your child should be able to move forward to the junior stage, at seven years of age, having obtained firm foundations on which to build further knowledge.

An experience of number (four rules) together with a knowledge of time, money, size, shape and length are presented to all the children.

The curriculum also provides for experiences through topic work, in History, Geography, Science, Art, Technology, Music, Drama, Welsh, Religious education and Physical education.

The classes are organised strictly by age, the work is tailored to the needs of the individual child, who works sometimes on his/her own, in a pair, a group and a class.

Assessment

Each child will have a record of achievement, which will be personal to the individual child.  The aim of this is to give a picture of the all-round progress.  As well as including samples of the child's work, the teacher will include information that the child will provide about his/her favourite colour, best friend, etc, as well as pictures of special events, sporting achievements, acting as a pageboy, bridesmaids, holiday snaps and so forth.

This record of achievement will accompany the child as he/she moves from class to class; and will be added to as the year progresses.

When the child leaves us at age 7, this record will be presented to him/her to keep, and will be unique reminder of his/her time with us, and the way in which he/she has developed.  Parents will enjoy looking back at their child's record of achievement as years go by.
